This is the drawing of what N. 7th St. and Hamilton St. is going to look like.
What in the hell? I understand the idea of more space for gatherings and events. But does the space that is currently there ever get filled from events? Looks like a good spot for protesters to gather on the southeast corner like they just did in Bethlehem.
Next the big deal is there will be a cyclist lane. Omg really? I only ever see one person riding there bike on hamilton besides all the kids blocking traffic and doing wheelies. I WONDER who that could be.
It looks like there will only be one lane traveling eastbound after 7th vs the two that are currently there. Great idea. Cant wait to leave the PPL and sit at the light forever waiting on traffic or an accident.
The best laugh is that Mayor Tuerk thinks this intersection will help reduce motor vehicle deaths for his Zero vehicle death Vision by 2030.
Can anyone please tell me when there was ever a fatal accident at N.7th St./Hamilton St.? None that I am ever aware of.
This is purely Tuerk wanting his stupid bike lanes so he has somewhere to ride.
The redesign isn't needed at all. It's a waste of our money. They should be addressing the speedways in Allentown... Hanover Ave, MLK, Hamilton St West, American Parkway... the places where deaths have and will continue to occur. Tuerk is completely out of touch.
ReplyDeleteAnd Josh Siegel sucks.
ReplyDeleteFrom his posture looks as if he is still riding around with Reillyvilles statues finger up his ass as benwaballs!
ReplyDeleteIt's as simple as stupid is as stupid does. Matt ignores the very basic problems that are dragging the city down and causing good people to throw in the towel and leave. His recently passed new zoning ordinance will supercharge overcrowding in the downtown and surrounding areas, allow more rooming houses, and residential units to be built in backyards. No one can read it so unless you have a lawyer you won't be able to know how to object to any of this in your neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI remember when you could drive around both sides of the monument... yeah, I'm old. It was/still is a mess after that hair brained idea was implemented and now they want to foul traffic up MORE!!! It will be interesting to see how the "road runners" navigate this upcoming colossal mess. We take our lives in our hands driving as it is now. You check your mirror and it's all clear and the little speeding shits are on you like a fly on shit before you can get out of your space. THIS is what I want my tax money spent on, but heaven forbid they might tick someone off or offend them... And let's not address the unlicensed motorcycles and bikes or the rolling speakers that we put up with all night long. But I digress... Stick a BIG fork in Allentown, it's DONE!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, we don't have a lack of pocket parks problem, we don't have a lack of street trees problem, we don't have a apartment rental problem, we have PEOPLE PROBLEMS, plain and simple, which the city refuses to address.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a interesting topic of trees in your comment. Today riding by the walking dick with ears house, there was two heavily highly paid city employees with heavy equipment trucks that trimmed his trees between curb and sidewalk? Common practice is it is the owners responsibility to hire a licensed arborist to survey if trees are healthy and to be trimmed not lop sidedly.
DeleteCity employees are not paid to work on other city employees personal property mayor or otherwise!
Good next they will be doing minor maintenance on Alan Jennings land holding too!
DeleteThe bike lanes that already exist don’t get used, so take the hint they’re not needed. Also I would argue these new restructured streets might cause more accidents since it will create a split on eastbound traffic that previously didn’t exist. Traffic will reach that point and jump lanes to get into the correct lane, likely causing accidents. You were correct in that we’re “fixing” a problem that never existed.
