Ed Zucal for Mayor

Slick Eddie is facing a tough round 2 against Matt Tuerk. But maybe not.

Eddie got beat up pretty hard in the primary but did show a very strong or historic amount of write ins for an Allentown mayoral candidate.

But lets look into Ed a little.

Some of his strong points are his conversative values and views on appropriately spending tax payers money. I think he would cut unnecessary spending and positions which would result in less tax increases if any at all.  He has a strong push to address quality of life issues within the police department.  He has also redacted his statement of firing Chief Roca immediately, believing that Roca might not be the problem.  Citing if he had more free range to run the department like he wants, he might be able to fix some issues.

Zucal I feel is more for the people partly because becoming Mayor is his end game.  He does not have any further political aspirations and unlike Matt has lived in Allentown for most of his life.  He knows the issues and is realistic about fixing some of them.

Lastly, the primary results did not show the true picture. 1st no republicans voted.  I can tell you that Tuerk will be lucky to get 10%  (that is high) of all the Republican votes.  2nd I dont think the amount of Democrats who will vote will be much higher than in the primary. Thus keeping Tuerks votes pretty much the same. Lastly, there are several thousand Independents who didnt vote in the primary either. They tend to vote more Republican as well.  Those three things can make Nov 4th interesting.   My 4th and final Zucal point is the 4% tax increase has people pissed.  And I mean really pissed them off.  Judging by comments I read, Tuerk is going to lose alot of votes he previously got. Which is good for Zucal.

Zucal needs to hit home the fact that a 4% tax increase is just the beginning.  Remember in 2027 the city is going to have to start paying on the police and fire bond they are going to float.  They will need to cover between 9.5-14 million a year for basically the next 30 years.

If a 4% tax increase generates about 1.5 million.  It will take approx a 36% tax increase to generate 14 million!!!!  Even if Tuerk makes cuts and comes up with other money somehow there is no way that I can see taxes not going up atleast 20% for 2027. Even just to cover the $9.5 million they need a 24% tax increase!!!! I  think who you should vote for  should be simple.

  1. ABE didn't the indicted fast ed pay off allentowns pension issue when the drinking water was sold off to the in house consortium now known as Lehigh County Authority? The taxes being billed as rain water tax should really piss off many as that is for the greater part what's being pumped to there spigot. Writing that the fact is many have strange fascinations with human excrements that is a left and right issue.

  2. I am not too impressed with Tuerk. Any buildings built werent his doing. The 7th/Ham idea is stupid and will cause traffic backups. Raising taxes this year is only rhe beginning. If he wins he wont care. Zucal tho maybe not as polished, I think actually cares about people and not just himself. He wont be doing ohoto opps just to be on tv.
